As the air fills with anticipation in Tampa, the University of South Florida (USF) cheerleading program is gearing up for the much-anticipated 2025 UCA College Nationals. This thrilling event is set to unfold from January 17-19 at the famous ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in nearby Orlando, Florida. With both a coed squad and an all-girls team in action, USF is ready to show the world what they’ve got.
Over the past five years, USF cheer has practically dominated the competition scene, earning an impressive total of nine championships. Their reputation as a collegiate cheer dynasty has never been more solidified. In the previous year, we witnessed a groundbreaking achievement with the all-girls squad clinching both the Division IA All-Girl Game Day and Division IA All-Girl Traditional titles in the same season – a remarkable first for any Division I program!
Guided by the exceptional leadership of head coach Sandy Clarke, the all-girls team has fostered a winning culture, snagging back-to-back league championships in the All-Girl Game Day category. The USF coed team has its fair share of accolades as well, having bagged several national titles in the Traditional category over the years. In the intense competition of 2024, the coed team finished in second place in the Division IA Large Coed Game Day category and fourth in the Division IA Large Coed Cheer category. Talk about impressive!
For those excited fans eager to support the Bulls, there is a plethora of competitive events to cheer them on during the competition days:
After a 13-year break, the USF cheer program re-entered the scene in 2016 and has been making waves ever since. Just last year, the coed team secured a remarkable first place in the Division IA Large Coed category at the UCA College Nationals, alongside a proud third-place finish in the Division IA Large Coed Game Day category. A whopping three championships were reaped at this celebrated event!
Meanwhile, the all-girls team further solidified their dominance by being crowned both World Champions and USA Grand Champions, showcasing the extraordinary levels of strength and skill that these talented athletes possess.
At USF, cheerleading is not just about competition; it’s about building a strong culture of teamwork, resilience, and dedication. This environment not only fosters successful athletes but also provides young individuals with opportunities for personal growth. As the program continues to develop its legacy, it’s gaining increased visibility and prestige on a national level. We can’t wait to see what these athletes will achieve next!
