Exciting New Programs and Announcements for St. Petersburg Community
St. Petersburg is buzzing with energy as new programs and community initiatives roll out, all aimed at enriching the lives of its residents. From youth martial arts classes to celebrations recognizing local achievements, the city is committed to fostering a supportive environment for everyone. Here’s a look at what’s happening!
Empowering Young Minds through Martial Arts
One of the highlights is the expansion of the Jordan Park Youth Program, which now includes martial arts classes. In partnership with the Shihan School of Survival, these classes aim to equip our youth with essential life skills. Designed for kids ages 7-11, classes will run from 4-5:15 p.m., while ages 12-16 can join in from 5:30-6:45 p.m. These exciting sessions will kick off on February 11
Founded by Shihan Walter Evans in 2005, the Shihan School of Survival focuses on teaching jujitsu and karate, which not only empower young individuals but also help tackle pressing issues like youth obesity, bullying, and gang activity. With these classes, the program aspires to build both confidence and discipline in our young citizens.
Celebrating Success and Community Spirit
On the community front, a group of young Jewish professionals from St. Petersburg made waves by attending the recent International Chabad Young Jewish Leadership Summit in New York. They joined over 700 peers from across the globe, working together to strengthen community ties and leadership skills. Such engagement shows that the spirit of St. Petersburg reaches far beyond its borders!
In another celebration, the St. Petersburg City Council has declared March 5 as “RadioStPete Day”. This proclamation recognizes the internet radio station’s first anniversary. Live music, a VIP concert, and a happy hour are set to take place at Thrive DTSP to mark this joyful occasion. Sounds like a fun way to celebrate, doesn’t it?
Ongoing Community Support and Opportunities
For those looking to serve the community, applications are now open for a seat on the Citizen Advisory Committee of the Lealman Community Redevelopment Area for a three-year term, with the deadline set for March 14. This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to get involved in local governance.
In terms of community support, St. Vincent de Paul CARES has recently received reaccreditation from COA Accreditation, reinforcing its dedication to professional standards in community service. Last year, the organization provided over 70,000 meals and assisted more than 27,293 individuals grappling with homelessness—a truly commendable effort!
Exciting Events and Programs to Engage the Youth
Mark your calendars, families! The St. Petersburg City Theatre is set to open summer camp registration on March 3 for Family Membership holders and March 10 for the public. This is a great chance for kids ages 7-14 to engage in creative arts through two-week camps.
Moreover, there’s a call for grant applications for the Youth Opportunity Grants Program for Former Foster Youth, closing on February 28. This program aims to financially assist those who have faced the foster care system as they transition into adulthood.
Supporting Local Initiatives and Health Services
Additionally, the Rays Baseball Foundation and Rowdies Soccer Fund are accepting Community Fund Grant applications until April 30. These community grants are designed to support local nonprofits, making a real difference in the St. Petersburg area!
Great news for pet owners too! The Veterinary Emergency Group is opening a new 24/7 pet emergency clinic at 9675 Fourth St. N. It’s always comforting to know help is just around the corner when it comes to our furry friends.
Finally, don’t miss the open house and tour of the Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch on February 28, a place dedicated to supporting veterans and providing much-needed resources in our community.
Building Stronger Connections in the City
On a similar note, local police officers are strengthening their skills with Brazilian jiu-jitsu training, taught by Royce Gracie. This initiative not only equips officers with non-lethal methods of subduing suspects but also aims to improve relationships within the community. It’s all about fostering safety and trust!
With so many initiatives and events gearing up, it’s clear that St. Petersburg is thriving and focused on building a vibrant, supportive community for all. Join in the excitement, and let’s celebrate the spirit of togetherness!
