St. Petersburg is hosting a series of community workshops under the initiative ‘Voices from the Corridor’ to engage residents in shaping the Deuces Corridor’s future. The first workshop is on February 11. Additionally, George Smith is appointed as the new Chief Equity Officer, while Dan Saracki has been elected chair of the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority. The city focuses on inclusive growth and community development, emphasizing educational recognition and environmental initiatives.
St. Petersburg is buzzing with energy as the city kicks off its latest initiative, “Voices from the Corridor,” which includes a series of community workshops designed to get residents involved in shaping the future of the Deuces Corridor and the Warehouse Arts District. This is part of the broader “Imagine the Deuces” initiative that honors the rich history and vibrant culture of 22nd Street South, affectionately known as The Deuces.
The very first workshop is set to take place on February 11 at the Center for Health Equity, located at 2333 34th St. S. Residents are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and share their insights and ideas during this collaborative event. Mark your calendars, as this is a wonderful chance to get your voice heard!
These workshops aim to create a vibrant dialogue among community members, paving the way for future developments while respecting the unique character of the area. It’s an opportunity for everyone to take part in meaningful discussions and have a say in how The Deuces will evolve in coming years.

Meanwhile, on the transportation front, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) board has recently made headlines by electing Dan Saracki, the mayor of Oldsmar, as its very first chair from north Pinellas County. This is a significant achievement for the board! Additionally, St. Petersburg City Council Member Deborah Figgs-Sanders has been elected as vice-chair of the PSTA board, with South Pasadena Commissioner Tom Reid taking on the role of Secretary/Treasurer. A great show of collaboration for the betterment of public transport in the region!
The St. Petersburg Housing Authority, ever devoted to community development, hosted a Mentorship Fair on January 23, focusing on promoting growth and opportunity for the youth in South St. Pete. Such events are crucial in shaping the next generation and addressing the needs of the community.
Education is shining bright in St. Petersburg, as St. Petersburg College has received recognition yet again as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, recently awarding 44 cybersecurity certificates in December. In efforts to protect Florida’s waters, the HM Restaurant Group raised an impressive $3,347 through sales of their “Send it South” cocktail, donating proceeds to Captains For Clean Water. This initiative shows the power of community support in addressing significant environmental challenges.
In a bid to improve access across neighborhoods and commercial areas, the city is partnering with the PSTA and the Florida Department of Transportation for the Connecting South St. Pete CRA Study. A public workshop to discuss transportation improvement plans and seek community input will be held on January 29 at the Campbell Park Recreation Center.
