Located at 699 1st Avenue North, the project features 218 units, a public plaza, and increased parking. Although currently paused, this initiative reflects optimism for urban growth and rejuvenation in the area.
Hey there, St. Petersburg! Great news for those of you who love to keep an eye on the ever-evolving landscape of our beautiful downtown area. A project aimed at enhancing our community has just received the green light. That’s right, a brand new apartment tower is set to rise near the heart of the city, and it’s going to be taller and even more fabulous than initially planned!
Originally designed to be 21 stories high, the sleek new apartment tower will now stretch to 23 stories—that’s a whole two stories more of prime real estate for living and shopping! The project is located at 699 1st Avenue North, making it quite the hotspot for residents who want to be near the action. With the redesign, the number of residential units has increased from 200 to 218 units. Imagine the vibrant community that will sprout up in this fresh urban space!
This isn’t just about apartments, though. With the new design, there will also be 11,193 square feet of retail space. Think cafes, boutiques, and more right at your doorstep. And to make life a little easier, the number of parking spaces has increased from 264 to a whopping 274 spaces. No more stressing about finding a spot when you get home!
But wait, there’s more! The development goes beyond simply stacking apartments in the sky. The design team has incorporated a public plaza, featuring art installations and shaded areas, giving residents and visitors a place to relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the area. This plaza aims to blend the hustle and bustle of urban life with a sense of tranquility, as the site is conveniently located near the newly designated historic district at Mirror Lake. Who wouldn’t want a peaceful retreat just a hop and a skip away?
While the project is paused for now due to economic circumstances, developers are staying hopeful about the growth potential in St. Petersburg. The landscape of this area has always been dynamic—once home to vacant office buildings and a triplex, this site has undergone serious transformations since plans were first approved by the Development Review Commission in January 2023.
This project isn’t just another construction; it’s a part of a larger vision for downtown development. The Downtown St. Petersburg Development Guide for 2025 points to more expected residential and commercial growth. It’s a clear sign that our community is committed to reinvestment and rejuvenation.
The heavy lifting on this innovative project is being handled by the talented folks at ODP Architects and Booth Design Group. This endeavor marks Gravel Road Partners’ second big project in St. Petersburg, following the successful Bayou Court Apartments, which focused on bringing affordable housing to the area.
St. Petersburg’s mayor has pointed out that the city’s growth remains resilient, even in the face of challenges like the hurricanes that made headlines in 2024. It demonstrates the spirit of our community and the commitment to pushing forward, rain or shine.
So, keep your eyes peeled for updates on the apartment tower project and get ready for even more exciting changes in our downtown area. With each step forward, St. Petersburg is blossoming into a vibrant hub of urban living and opportunities!
