Fun or not, Phil’s predictions don’t actually dictate when winter officially hangs up its gloves—that duty belongs to the vernal equinox, which arrives on March 20 each year.
As much as we love the spirit of Groundhog Day, winter hasn’t held back lately! The eastern U.S. has seen its share of bitterly cold temperatures and some fierce winter storms. In fact, this past January might go down as the coldest in recent memory, with states in the south getting blanketed in significant snowfall.
On a lighter note, Phil and his lovely wife, Phyllis, have welcomed two adorable new groundhog offspring named Sunny and Shadow. Just what we all needed—cuties to brighten up the season, no matter how chilly it gets outside!
