In a thrilling and record-breaking home opener, the Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) softball team kicked off their season in grand style on January 28, 2025, against Florida State College at Jacksonville. Fans at the Titan Softball Complex were treated to an incredible day of action, as the Titans showcased their skills in a doubleheader that left everyone cheering.
As the smoke cleared after Game 1, the Titans emerged victorious, triumphing over FSC-Jacksonville with an impressive score of 11-3. However, things didn’t start off easy. The visiting team made a statement early on, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Nevertheless, Titans’ starting pitcher Avery Velazquez quickly got into the groove, demonstrating her prowess on the mound by shutting out FSC-Jacksonville for the next five innings.
In a dramatic turnaround, the Titans fought back vigorously. One of the highlights came when Martha Jones turned heads with an exceptional inside-the-park home run that sliced the lead down to 3-2. The Titans rallied tellingly in the third inning, sending an impressive total of 12 hitters to the plate and scoring an astounding six runs, emerging confidently with an 8-3 lead. Stellar performances from players like Ashley Corazzini, who notched three hits, played a crucial role in this memorable opener. Velazquez also showcased her striking ability, earning the win with four strikeouts.
